Cameron smiled and walked over to her bed stand and placed the food on it, right where the rest of her meals had been placed. He then turned and faced Arai, even though she wasn't facing him. She was looking out at the storm and Cameron bent down and neatly arranged the bed, folding the top covers back smoothly before he said anything, " Well i do suppose that introductions are in order seeing as how you have to be wondering my name by now. If you are not then, well, i will just give it anyway." Cameron said and stepped out away from the bed and walked a few feet towards Arai, still about five feet from her. " I am Cameron Anders, i am a colonel in the U.S. army, well, former army as i here. Anyhow, as i said before, i lead this base and everyone here is under my order." Cameron said and smiled, as if presenting himself, " We know who you are Arai, so introductions are not needed but if you would like to tell me something of yourself that would be kind of you."

Still staring out the window, she digested this information. "Well, Mr. Anders," she said, "I go by Arai, and I am nineteen. I am.....was....an only child, living in a small tpwn. Graduated at the top of my class as valedictorian, and I was the homecoming queen. I have put in two years of volunteer hours at my local hospital and EMS. I got accepted full scholarship to the best medical school in the state, which is where I would be now. Except about a month before I left, the senior class had a camping trip. It was all great fun, until another guy and I were walking in the woods late at night. Next thing I know, I'm in the hospital. A wolf had attacked us both; he died, but the camp heard my screams and drove it away. But not before I got the scars on my stomach. Next full moon, I discover that I am a werewolf, and so does the rest of the town. I ran and never came back. I had to; they would have killed me otherwise." After finishing her short speech in an emotionless monotone, she turned and faced him, the lightning illuminating the silvery, ribbon thin scar running from her temple to her jaw. "What I want you to understand is that despite the fact that I am a werewolf, I am first just a teenage girl, on her own and not used to all this travel, hatred, and hardship. I changed my name; nothing good has happened to me recently. I cannot remember my past, because it only hurts to see what I can never have again. I did not choose this, I did not want this." Then she turned away again, looking unseeingly at the driving rain.

Cameron nodded. There wasn't much else he could do. She had an interesting story. It was it was a rather sad one too. She was brilliant, top of her class, EMT. Now there was someone that they needed to keep around, well except for like when a full moon came around. " I am sorry about what happened to you, but you know, now, not the past is what you should be focused on." Cameron said and looked out the window, walking towards Arai and standing next to her, his arms folding across his chest. " Well, i can't say it the most beautiful of nights." He said with a chuckle, " But we need the rain so this is good for the soil, for the crops." Cameron said calmly, " What do you like to do for fun? Board games? Have you taken any fighting classes? Do you like to read?" Cameron asked.

Arai chuckled dryly. "This is the first time I have focused on the past in a while; I only deal with the present now, with staying alive. For the most part, I live from full moon to full moon, traveling in between and getting away from any people when the moon begins to fill. And why are you apologizing?" she said, piercing him with her scrutinous brown gaze, "you are not the cause of any of my problems." Her gaze softening a bit, now just less hostile, she said, "I don't fight. Nonviolent sort of lifestyle. I used to run track. I like any sort of strategy games, I love to read. Any sort of books; fiction, medical, non-fiction, sci-fi, anything. What do you do for fun?" she finished, directing the attention back at him.

Cameron turned and looked at Arai and smiled slightly as she asked him what he did for fun. " I kill vampires." Cameron said dryly. There was no emotion in his words, no smugness, no laughter. He just said it. It was a declarative sentence, not to be taken as anything other. He did that for fun, yes that was true. " My profession calls me to kill, whereas i do not enjoy killing humans even though so many times i must, but i do not have a quarrel with killing vampires and never will. Your kind though, i have more respect for because they have more respect for us. Whereas vampires have no souls and think of us as vermin. Well, the exterminators have become the exterminated when i get through." Cameron said calmly, " But we have a library if you would like to see it."

"I have been fortunate enough to not run into any of those soulless bloodsuckers," she said, "though I have seen...evidence...of their 'exterminating'. Frankly, as long as they leave me alone, I leave them alone. And I wish your men would share your respect," she added. Arai looked over at him, a shadow of interest in her light brown eyes. "I would," she affirmed. Sliding off the edge of the bed, she stood on both bare feet. The world spun around her, and she sat back down, rubbing her head with one slender hand as she closed her eyes and willed the fuzziness to go away.

Cameron nodded and walked into Arai's closet and produced a rain coat. It was a camoflauged color, no surprise there. Then he tossed it to her, giving her apt time enough to put it on before he walked to the door and opened it. The door blew back from the wind and the curtains whipped against the window as Cameron and Arai hurried out. Cameron stayed on the outside of Arai to refute as much of the rain as he could. He walked to the elevator terminal and tower and typed in his passwords and his fingerprints were identified. The elevator opened and they rode it down to the first level. They then exited to the right, going under the overpasses to reach a building on the Southwest tier. Cameron opened the door with a key and walked inside. Inside was a massive collection of books.

Arai caught the jacket as the fuzzy feeling went away. Man, she really needed to stop standing up so quickly. Holding it tightly around herself, she limped after the military man, bending her head against the powerful wind and rain. After a bit of walking, they finally reached an elevator, where there were scanners and codes of every kind. She rolled her eyes a bit. Military men and their technology; she figured about half of the stuff was a bit unnecessary, but they kept it because it was cool. Following, unaware of direction or where she was, Arai finally saw the library. Her mouth slowly opened in silent admiration as she pushed back the dripping hood of her coat. Books lined shelf after shelf, in every size and color imaginable. The air smelled of paper, dust, and ink. She breathed in deeply; there was nothing like the smell of books to refresh your mind. Gently laying her hand on a few, she riffled through the pages, still in awe of the giant collection.

In truth, Cameron had not used this library very much at all. He didn't have any problems with reading and he even enjoyed the occasional fantasy novel. The problem was that he very rarely had any free time, and when he did, well he was doing something else. Usually it was perfecting his killing techninques or something along those lines. It wasn't reading. Cameron could immediately see that this girl loved to read. He saw her eyes light up when she saw the vast room of books. There were books about vampires and werewolves and other such demons in the library, but not nearly as many as Cameron would like to have. He needed all the books on mythical creatures that he could find. As of now, he had not found that many. Cameron walked up behind Arai, " We have a section for everything. Anything in particular that you would like to find?" Cameron asked kindly.

She barely heard him; she was too absorbed in the lifetimes of knowledge contained here. Her hand brushed tragedy, her eyes lingered over fantasy, she walked between fact and fiction. Arai turned, as if in a dream, and said in a hushed, sacred tone, "No, I just want to look and read." Then she turned back, soaking in the sight. Her light brown eyes flickered from title to title, reading each in turn. "Actually, do you have any books on werewolves?" she questioned, "I really don't know much about them; about myself."

Cameron nodded his head and beckoned for Arai to follow him. " We do, but not all that many because we have just started the collection and haven't been able to track down all that many ancient books and tablets about your kind." Cameron said calmly as the lights flickered above and an enormously loud clap of thunderstorm shook the building slightly it seemed. Cameron kept on walking as if nothing out of the ordinary just happened, walking to a room with a window on the wall. Cameron flicked on the light and then showed her several bookshelfs full of books. " Most of these are on vampires, but werewolf books are mingled in there."

Arai followed him, still limping distinctly. She jumped at the loud rumble of thunder. Her golden eyes huge in her white face, she drew back her hand, hugging herself as the lights flickered on and off. Her legs suddenly weak, she sank down on the floor, face taught with fear. She couldn't stand thunderstorms; at home she always stayed in bed until they were over. Was it just her imagination, or did the library just shake? Another loud clap resounded sharply; Cameron was no longer in sight. Arai wanted to call him back, but all she could do was sit, frozen by fear, unable to move or talk.

It took Cameron a while to figure out that Arai was not right behind him. He turned around and looked around for Arai and then walked out of the room and saw Arai on the ground. Cameron walked over to her and knelt down beside her. " Are you doing alright?" He asked and put his hand on her shoulder. He figured that she was scared of storms, but he wanted to know if that was truly the matter or not. He himself did not mind at all. The lights flickered again as another clap of thunder ripped through the sky.

Her eyes flicked a bit wildly to Cameron, then she switched back to staring into space. Another loud roar of thunder shook the building, leaving the loud rumble ringing in her sensitive ears. She saw him put his hand on her shoulder; but she was still frozen, eyes wide, skin pale and spectral against her firey red hair. Her small frame quivered a bit with every flicker of the lights, every flash of lightining, every boom of thunder. Arai flinched a bit as another bolt of lightning shot down from the heavens, followed by the crashing of thunder.

Cameron wasn’t exactly sure what to do in this situation. He wasn’t used to comforting people. He had never needed to be comforted before because he had never feared anything and therefore no one had ever had to comfort him or reassure him that everything was going to be ok. By now Cameron had determined that it was in fact the storm that bothered her. Cameron looked outside and then back at Arai and gave a smile, “ It will be alright, it is just rain and a little thunder. Thunder never hurt anyone and lighting, well lightning struck this building two years ago and lighting never strikes anywhere twice.” Cameron said reassuringly and then moved his arm around Arai’s shoulder. “Come on, it will be fine.” He said softly
