Jasper was confused. He'd only ever been in contact with other vampires, and never with any other creatures. She couldn't but running because she was afraid of him, he knew that wasn't it. There was a glimmer of realization that he saw in Arai's eyes when he'd spoken to her. His hand dropped from where it held Arai's wrist and he heard her feet hit the ground in rhythmic succession as the sound faded as she got farther. Jasper couldn't let her go, not yet. He didn't care what she said, he knew that there was something about Arai... Jasper started running, his own worn converses matching the beat of her's against the blacktop. He sped up and stayed about 15 feet behind, the strange sense of connection to his old life, if nothing else was driving him on.

Running, pace steady, feet hitting the ground in a soft beat, Arai strove to get out of town and away as soon as she could. Yes, full moons meant ferocity, uncontrollable rage, but she had so far avoided killing anyone recently. Mostly she did this by staying away from people. But this time she had failed. She had grown lax in her duties. And now the full moon was rising and there was nothing she could do. Nothing but get as far away as possible. Now Arai ran along the outskirts, thankfully avoiding being seen by the townspeople. With her face no doubt all over the news, she wouldn't stop for anyone. Her short red hair whipped around her face as the wind blew behind her, as if urging her to move faster. Now she was running top speed, form perfect as always, legs hitting the ground and lifting again like well-oiled pistons. The sky darkened to reddish-purple, the sun set now and the night coming all too fast. Within minutes the moon would begin to herald the beginning of another night of war against herself. The white orb terrified her in its etheral beauty. But that beauty she had no wish to see. Running between a few scrubby trees, Arai came into a clearing. It was vast and empty, and she supposed it was a good a place as any to stay for now. Hopefully she could control the beast well enough to keep herself here. Out of habit she checked behind her, and her heart sank as she saw that Jasper had followed her. "What are you doing!?!" she hissed, "Leave!" Glancing nervously at the sky, she knew she had as little as ten minutes to get him away from here.

Jasper shook his head upon being discovered. "No," he answered firmly. Like a disgruntled child he folded his arms over his chest in protest. "Not until I get answers." Jasper was persistent, and he could detect the urgency and annoyance in Arai's voice. His step unaltered as he approached the woman delicately. "Why are you so adamant about keeping what you are a secret? I can assure you its nothing worse than I am. I doubt you're the devil reincarnated, I doubt your my ex mother in law..." Jasper glanced up at the moon. It was a beautiful sight to see as the clearing was bathed in the silvery light of the goddess. He glanced down at Arai, and saw the anger in her face, and how she cast a look up at the moon with a nervous eye. "What are you a werewolf or something?" he chuckled. He'd seen those in a movie back in the forties. It was some cheap imitation of a man supposedly going mad with a bunch of false hair glued to his face. The feelings from Arai were real though. "...You can't be serious."

Grr, men were so frustrating! First he wouldn't leave, and now he talked as if he knew that what she had wasn't that bad. Well, it was time for a news flash. What she, or more like what this unwanted intruder that took over her, did was horrible. In a few minutes she would become a far cry from the petite girl standing here now, urgently trying to convince the tall stranger to leave. What she became was hideous, uncontrollable, and murderously fast, with strength unequaled by man and cunning that was put to deadly good use. Control was the one thing the beast lacked. Once the smell of flesh, any flesh, was evident in the air, the hungry animal was only incensed further. Nothing would save him, Arai knew sadly, not if he stayed here. Well, he had asked for it. "Yes, in fact, I am," she snapped, the moon rising ever higher in her peripheral vision. The familiar hated twinges and tingles began at her feet and hands, serving as a predecessor to the ghastly transformation that was about to take place. Hopefully her admission would drive him away. She didn't want this Jasper to die.

Jasper's sense of masculinity told him to stand and fight, well not fight, but at least face Arai for who she was. Her body trembled visually in the pale light, Jasper's eyes were trained to her, straining to see everything that was happening. What was happening was so new, he couldn't take his eyes from her, even if he'd wanted to. The feeling of danger set in as he began to realize what was happening, his mind was telling him to run, to turn tail and flee for the hills, but he couldn't. Jasper didn't want to leave Arai. "I can take care of myself anyways, you won't want my blood, its not what you crave." Jasper flashed his extended fangs to Arai in a smug smile, dismissing the fear from his tone. He didn't want to worry her, or show weakness in any form. He stood tall with his chest thrust forward proudly, trying to appear like he wasn't a scared little girl. Jasper in a brave gesture went and wrapped his arms around her small form, and kissed her hair, "I hope to think that you wouldn't get rid of me this easily." It was dangerous, he knew, not just because she was in the middle of her transformation, but because he was freely touching her, he was more afraid of her reaction to this than what her other forms might mangle his body to be. Jasper prayed her knee couldn't reach his balls.

Although Arai would have protested quite vehemently, and quite physically too, had Jasper tried embracing her earlier, right now her mind was preoccupied. More specifically it really wasn't her mind at all. On full moons, a different mind emerged. It was a dark and ravenous one, lusting for blood and death, powerfully hungry after being kept down for a whole month. And now was the time that Arai feared most; the beast was out. The rays of the full moon were the only key to the internal prison, and now they unlocked the primal monster with their terrifying beauty. Slowly the trembling increased, racking the petite frame until it seemed as if she was having a terrible seizure. Then thick fur began to sprout from her soft skin as her bones lengthened and contorted. Her legs, so slender and supple, became thick and hairy, suited for running and fighting. Behind them blossomed a bushy tail, whipping from side to side in anticipation of a hunt. Her slim silhouette became huge, towering above Jasper, chest broad and rippling with lean muscle. Powerful forearms ended in paw-like hands, blunt claws, suited for ripping and tearing, jutting from each digit. Her body was covered with a thick coat that shone cinnamon, reddish brown in the silver of the moon. Her face underwent the most startling change, her small, barely freckled nose becoming a long muzzle tipped by a black snout resting above needle-sharp teeth. Small pointed ears flicked forwards and around, tipped in black and furry, listening. All in all, it was a terrifying sight, to see a small girl, barely over five feet, change into a giant wolf beast. Though she was small for a werewolf, Arai still topped off at well over a foot taller than Jasper. Then the black nose lifted to the life-giving moon, baying out thanks in a long and chilling howl. The hunt was on.

Why am I not running, he thought almost hysterically. I can't run... it'll draw attention, f*ck, what do I do? Why haven't they published some tips about what to do if your date is a werewolf? Jasper groaned in his head. Slowly he removed his arms from around Arai's waist, keeping his eyes on her as she towered over him with a menacing bay that sent rippling chills through his body like someone had thrown ice water on him. With sure, safe movements, he removed his head from where it was pressed against Arai's chest, who's muscles made his look shameful. Jasper gazed up into Arai's face as it praised its golden master in the sky. Then, as his body had begged him to, he began to back away, one even backward step after another. The light played around the vampire and illuminated his tresses that looked like the color of flowing, rich, molten chocolate that ran to tickle the back of his neck. The flawless pale color of his skin looked like pure marble beneath the smooth cotton of his t shirt and the irresistible, charming blue of the lapis lazuli stone that hung in an aged silver setting around his neck. Jasper felt sorry for Arai, that she was the moon's prisoner like this, and how he knew it would be hard to get close to her. Jasper stood without any other protection other than his inhuman speed, and strength, and he wanted to avoid using the latter at all costs. It would hurt him to hurt her.

Salutation finished, the great wolf lowered its head, eyes shining an eerie green as they caught the light of the moon. Ears pricked forwards, she saw, heard, and smelled the vampire nearby. Soon she would taste him too. A rumbling growl escaped her bared teeth, building deep in her chest and full of menace. The silvery moonbeams glistened off her fangs, each on pointed and ivory white, ready to be stained red with blood. It was amazing how much your perspective could change after gaining a few hundred pounds of solid muscle and growing over two feet. The male who had a few minutes ago seemed strong and powerful now looked puny and weak next to her. Her black lips lifted in a dangerous smile. No matter. He would taste good all the same. Lowered to all four feet, the noble head now looked on a level ground with Jasper. Her pale gold eyes bored through him hungrily. Though the eyes were the same color as Arai, they were far from her. Her eyes were now filled with malice and lust for meat, for food. And Jasper was it. Claws digging small furrows into the ground in anticipation of a hunt, the wolf's muscles tensed, ready for action. "Run," she snarled, her voice low and gravely, ears pressed backwards against her head and fur bristling.

Jasper nodded, heeding the menacing beast's advice. Instead of turning though, and turning his back on Arai he ran past her. At first it was a steady jog, then his speed built up to the inhuman strength that powered his legs. He'd fed only hours ago on an average teenaged girl with long red hair that he seduced into a feeding out of the local bookstore. She had said she wanted a real encounter, and so he gave her one that she will never forget. Jasper smiled at the memory, but was snapped back to reality as trees popped up in front of him. He anticipated to hear the galloping of Arai somewhere behind him as he dodged the oaks and maples that dropped leaves like a torrential blizzard of green sweeping through the forest. Beneath his feet twigs snapped as he ran over them carelessly knowing that Arai was being alerted as to his position with every telltale snap. He knew that he would be unforgiving, but he didn't have any idea what to do to protect himself, he wasn't armed and he was pretty sure she wouldn't be easily warded off. He grabbed two thick branches off of a big tree as he blustered past at blazing speeds. Jasper had an idea.

Snapping at the retreating form as he zipped past, the wolf's eyes gleamed in anticipation. This would be a good hunt. Turning with surprising agility for a beast so large, she was off. All four paws pounded in a steady staccatto, black nails throwing up small chunks of dirt and grass as she went. Quickly gaining speed, the red wolf closed some of the distance. Now it was an even match in speed. Jasper had inhuman strength, and so did Arai. Now in the forest, she slinked between trees, over rocks, and through the shadows like quicksilver, the only indication of her a quick flash of cinnamon through the soft glow of the moon. The thick muscles on her back rippled, ears pinned against her head until they seemed to disappear, her bushy tail acting as balance on her quick turns. She didn't really need the sounds of Jasper crashing through the forest to guide her. Her keen nose had picked up his smell. she had been close enough to have it saturate her senses, and she would always remember it now. He would not escape. The werewolf was like a tracking hound, but tripled in ability and with the capability of sentient thought. Nothing could escape that. Now she was closing in on the tasty meat ahead, and her white teeth bared in anticipation. A few more minutes and she would be on him.

Jasper's feet still took off in a concentrated rhythm as he ran as he held the logs in his hand. He pulled a zippo lighter from his pocket and it hit the light with a twinkle as it came into view. The footsteps behind him ushered his speed on further to run faster and he tried, trying to concentrated on many things at once. He sparked the lighter until a three inch flame appeared and held it to one of the logs and began to rip logs down from neighboring trees in a bunch and passed the flame from each log. Soon all of the logs were on fire and he began to jab them into the ground in a circle around a big oak tree with thick enough branches to support Jasper, but if Arai tried to climb the average branches they would surely buckle under her weight. The vampire shimmied up into the tree with agility, he grunted as his muscled strained and the unforgiving tree bark scraped his tough skin, pushing up branch to branch, finding trusting footholds in the bends of the branches. He pulled his way up one more, grunting and sat on the fourth branch up where he could peer down and see Arai through the branches and darkening oak leaves but was out of her reach. Now all he had to do was wait.

Her nose caught the acrid smell of burning wood and, coupled with the flare of fire, she guessed the vague idea of what he was doing. Classic move, really, to ward off wolves with fire. And now he had dissappeared. At least from sight. Her sense of smell caught him easily, though his scent moved up higher in the air. Drawing herself up onto two legs once more, the giant wolf sniffed. He was in the tree, definitely. Although if he didn't want to be discovered, he wasn't doing very well about it. The blazing spears of wood around the tree were quite the tipoff. Coming as close as she dared to the fire, the cinnamon beast looked up at him, amber eyes hungry and cunning. The tree would not support her, but she had patience, at least. She would wait. The thing about fire was that it had to have fuel. Sure, sticks in a ring provided temporary protection, but soon they would burn out into the ground, leaving holes in his protective barrier. Then she would get him out. And then she would feast.

Jasper considered throwing himself down, just to solve the problem and feed the beast but instead he stayed on his branch, propping his back up on the trunk of the tree and relaxing. "What? You expect to have me as your dinner?" Jasper mocked, "Well then, Arai, love, you'll make extra room in that lean stomach of yours by burning off a few calories. I'm sure to give you a run for your money. Like a good little boy I've eaten today, drank all my blood and gotten big and strong, while you've been a bad girl and are going to become weak with hunger soon." With ease he stood up and balanced perfectly and swung from the branches, not fearing hitting the ground due to his miraculous agility. He dangled his legs and gripped the branch from the under side and began to do pull ups on the branch above him. Jasper smiled beautifully, his smile twinkling in the light down to the wolf. One hand still doing pull ups with ease, he pulled down twigs and dry leaves and fed the torches at the base. "The kitty is safe in the tree once again with the dog at the bottom too determined to know that she can't climb up," he mocked on, enticing her. However, what Jasper was really wondering was who was to play the fireman and come rescue him? God, don't let this end badly, he reached out hopefully.

Ears pinned back, Arai hunkered low to the ground, a rolling growl escaping her throat. The vampire dared to mock her - he would die painfully for this. Yes, lycans in wolf-form could speak, but Arai did not. It was not necessary. He fed the torches, and they flared bright again, forming a barrier of flame. The dancing yellow gold lights reflected in her own eyes. She could not jump over them, for they were too close to the tree to have an area where she could land. The tree would not support her weight, and this she knew. The dangling male only served to feed her voracious drive for hunger. Snapping her jaws, she glared up at him. Then the wolf had an idea. Yes, fire worked to scare away normal wolves, but she had the intelligence of a human. She knew how to play with fire and not get burned. One way or another he would come down. He would be forced too. Stalking regally up to a taller torch, the cinnamon wolf kept an eye on Jasper, mocking him silently as she extended a huge paw and pushed the base of the torch ever so cautiously, pushing it out enough to tip it in until the base touched the tree. Going around, she repeated this treatment with all the torches that she could. Now all she had to do was sit and wait until the flames at the base of the tree flickered ever higher, burning him out. Her meal would drop or be well-cooked for her consumption. Wickedly she bared her glistening teeth at Jasper, the tip of her pink tongue slithering out and licking her lips. He would taste good.

The climbing fire glowed orange in Jasper's eyes. His heart began to race in panic, it was hard to think and his head began to spin in response. The flames licked up as the tree began to crack and buckle beneath its weight. The neighboring trees in the forest were close in proximity he reached out and grabbed onto a strong branch and swung over onto the next tree. His hands moved quickly as they passed from branch to branch, swinging through the upper branches like a monkey. Jasper began to criss cross and skitter through the branches, confusing the direction of his scent. He went around in circles and hit the ground. Jasper's knees buckled and within a second he was back up and running at full speed, doing the same thing, far from where he had left Arai at the burning tree. Other tree's leaves and branches began to light now, the whole forest soon destined to be a conflagration. The fire popped and cracked as the trees succumbed to its touch. The heat groped out into the cool night and hit Jasper's ever cooled skin. With a backward glance he took one last look and began to run in the opposite direction as fast as his feet would carry him.
