"Alive, yes, no thanks to you," Arai teased, relieved that he was alive and seemingly better. She smiled at his comment, realizing that now they were 'even' in a sense. She had tried to kill him and he had saved her, and then he had tried to kill her and she had saved him. It had all worked out somewhat in the end. Both of them were still here, uninjured for the most part, and it looked as if she just wasn't supposed to leave here. At least not at night. But with her relief over his recovery and weariness from running all night, it didn't look like she would be running off today. Surrepitously she covered the small wound from the needle with her other arm. There was no need to let him know it was lycan blood that healed him. After all, the vampire still lurked in there and she didn't want it getting a liking for her blood. Still, it was his nature, and she just hoped that in the future he could settle for getting his blood from someone else. And she would have to learn how to control herself during a full moon. Arai sighed. This was a very difficult situation.

"Well, I was just trying to pay you back for the other night," he teased back half heartedly. Jasper wheezed a laugh, the raspiness of his voice improved as the blood pumped into his arm. His calloused fingertips stroked the smooth, delicate skin on the back of her hand. "Arai," his voiced hummed as his eyes captured her with all of their hypnotic depth, "Are you okay?" He was worried for her. Jasper knew that she was a tough cookie, but even the toughest cookies can still get a chip or two here and there. His chest heaved up and down with a deadly yearning to be close to her. He wanted to scream how he felt, but knew all to well he'd be rushing her. It was the fourth day and he was already half in love with her already. Instead, as his cold, pale muscles yearned for even the slightest brush, he settled with gazing at her endlessly, its only what a true gentleman would do, and what Arai would want. However, it went without saying that she should know all to well how he felt for her. Or so he hoped.

She knew, and Arai couldn't decide whether to be flattered or repulsed. "I'll be alright," she said, smiling weakly. Her head was a bit woozy from the emergency blood she gave. Had she been prepared she would have eaten something. But there was no going back now. At least he was better. He sounded stronger, though he was still as pale as ever. His gaze, deep as a mysterious forest and as compelling as a command, drilled through her, stirring a strange feeling inside her. Arai smiled again, trying to convince him that she was okay. He would probably freak out if he knew it was her blood he was drinking. But right now she did not regret the giving. Now they were even. At least her viciousness was in check for another month. But how long could Jasper hold out against his urges? They were different races, and Arai couldn't help but feel that they were getting into a mess. But never had a mess felt so....exhilarating. Arai could not deny that. So she let his hand rest on hers, bringing her other hand to enclose his. Her small slender hands looked miniature compared to his ivory palms, she reflected. She was glad both of them were alive for today.

Upon reflecting, Jasper realized that this could be called a desperate play on Shakespeare's tradgedy, Romeo & Juliet. Two households, both alike in dignity... though they weren't in Verona right now, it was still applicable, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny. Such a plight of two lovers could only be compared to the love that was both accepted in the heart of one and renounced in the heart of the other. Somewhere in the back of his mind Jasper knew that his love with Arai would never be acceptable to her, that she could never bring him home to meet her lycan blood-brothers and sisters, or if she had parents, taking him home to meet them. "Hi Mom," he pictured her saying, "This is Jasper, but please excuse the prostitute on his plate, he'll have to dine a little differently than the rest of us tonight... Might want to avert your eyes." Oh yes, that'd go over really well, he could picture it. So how was Romeo to bare the loss of his fair Juliet when she had to go home to the Capulets and he to be what seemed like banished to cross paths with her again? The calloused ivory palm cupped Arai's chin and brought her into a soft kiss, pouring only a sip of his feeling for her into his kiss. As he pulled a way, he whispered into her lips "Such is love's transgression..." However, silently he added the rest of the line, Griefs of mine own lay heavy in my breast.. with more of thine, this love that hast shown, doth add more grief to too much of mine own.

The parents Jasper would never have to worry about, for they had thrown her out upon her first transformation. But the other lycans would do the same if they knew. She could never truly bring Jasper back, especially if Pete and Namir were around. The two would slay him - or at least try - on the spot. Especially with this apparent war looming. But if there was a war, she was not excited about being one of the first on the line. Arai was a healer, not a killer. But she knew that since she was the oldest in the new generation by transformation age, she would be expected to fight without backing down. Now, however, a war was the farthest from her mind. His chilled hand came to her chin, drawing her to him like a moth to flame. His kiss was not like the first on the street, wild and thrillingly dangerous, but soft and loving. Jasper's lips, like the rest of him, were cool and refreshing, yet somehow the kiss warmed her to the core. He pulled away far too soon, whispering a line from a poem, or perhaps a play. It sounded familiar....but she was too lost in that fuzzy feeling after a good kiss. Her pale amber eyes gazed into his forest green ones, wondering. "Jasper..." she whispered, leaning her forehead against his.

Jasper felt the warmth of her skin for the first time in their contact. As he rested his forehead against hers a smile tipped up one side of his lips, the way she whispered his name, the quickening heart beat that he could hear through her chest... Everything about her drove him undeniably mad. She was beautiful, and not even the scar down her face could mar her features or make him reconsider her. Arai was perfect, just how she was. The cool finger tips brushed over her slightly flushed cheeks, revling in the radiating heat that seemed to penetrate his cool skin and reach to the very depths of his being. Finally.. she was beginning to let him in. His world seemed brighter with her in it. "Thank you.." he whispered back. Arai made him forget his pain, forget the hurt and void that Diorah died, or their missing damphyr son. To him, it felt like he sipped the very nectar of life. He could't remember how it felt to be happy, and now that he was happy again, he couldn't bare to let it go. Jasper still however, dreaded to think about the end.

His cool fingers brushed against her soft skin, making her mind buzz with the shock of it. Never had she thought she would feel like this, especially with a vampire. Well, she hadn't exactly planned on falling in love with a race not human. All this was so strange, so new to her, this war among their races. She smiled back at him, cautious still to let him know how she felt. Well, he probably knew some of that from her kiss. It was strange how one's feelings could change so much when one tried to kill the other. After saving Jasper's life, it seemed that she felt closer to him. Maybe that was just the wooziness from the blood loss talking. Technically, she was a part of him now that her blood was in him. But he didn't know that; his feelings had been there all along, it seemed. Her pale amber eyes gazed sleepily into his, just happy to be here with him. "What did I do?" she whispered, a bit confused as to why he was thanking her.

"You made a man who didn't believe happiness existed anymore, happy," he smiled at her, gazing into those pale amber eyes, "I can never thank you enough, Arai." His voice swooned over her presence, letting even a delicate harmony flow through his voice. Jasper leaned in slightly to kiss her again, but just decided to be closer... Arai's scent overwhelmed him in her close proximity, like he was standing in a field of wild flowers and the warm wind was blowing the scent straight towards him. Looking at her made him want to to be able to be out in the sun so much more, to be able to have little bounds like she did. "...I just wish I could give you everything that you need," he murmured.

Arai gazed at him wonderingly. "I don't need anything from you," she said back, "you gave me my life back when we first met." She wondered how she had made him so happy. All she had done was reject his love for her, stay away from his small advances. Until now, that was. Now things were different. Somehow saving each other's life had brought them together. He leaned in closer, that intense look in his eyes again, that longing. But this time he did not want her blood. He had it anyways. He seemed to grow stronger with her near, and did not kiss her, just leaned closer. For the first time she was seeing some of the other side of vampires. Perhaps they were not all evil souless beasts like Pete and Namir said. Perhaps, like lycans, there was more than the vicious reputation they got. She, too, leaned a bit closer, wanting to drown herself in those wonderful green eyes. Unwittingly she leaned close enough that her lips brushed against his again, just barely, and she found herself in another kiss. Arai didn't mind a bit.

An irish accent rumbled from the doorway, "I'm sorry to interrupt," Doctor Pettenati said cooly, "But I think we have a break through." Jasper reluctantly broke from the kiss and glared at the doctor. Jasper was still annoyed that he intruded even though this could mean a lot for the two of them. He got up from the table and tugged Arai up gently with him, urging her to come with him. The doctor led the way down the hall to their fully equipt and functional makeshift lab. The doctor pulled himself to the otherside of the cold metal of the table and held out a vile that was spinning gently on the centrifuge. "Go on," he said to Jasper. Jasper looked down, suddenly nervous to be the first to try this concoction. "Come on lad," he shook the tube at him, "Don't lose your nerve now." Jasper got up the nerve that second and threw back the liquid in the vile like it was a shot of tequila. The crimson liquid didn't burn on the way down, and all signs looked to be fine... so far. "So..?" Doctor Pettenati probed anxiously, "How'd'ya feel?" Jasper waited a few seconds before answering to make sure he was really fine.. "...I think so...but there's still one more test." Jasper strode over to the heavy blankets that covered the bay window from any penetration of the sun and tugged it down. The sunlight spilled into the room like a water glass tipped on its side, dispelling its warm caresses over the vampire's skin. Jasper didn't squint his eyes or flinch, but just waited. There was no hissing or burning of flesh, and when he ventured to peek his eyes open, he wasn't pockmarked with black sizzling spots. Jasper, was okay. He immediately turned to Arai, with a new light in his eye. This was just the beginning.

Interrupted in the kiss, Arai pulled back, her cheeks beginning to highten in color. Well, the doctor knew now that she 'fancied' Jasper as well. Before she could say anything she was pulled along with an anxiously excited Jasper. What was this all about? She hadn't been awake any of the times the two had been in the lab, so she didn't even know they were working on anything. A bit shaky on her feet, she came along. Leaning against the wall, her curious eyes watched the proceedings. This was the work of quite a while, she could see. They had a full lab set up here. Though it was far from a super high-tech lab, it was none the less impressive. All sorts of equipment was here, just ready for experiments. And these two had certainly been busy. There was something that looked like blood in a small vial. They seemed intently interested in it, and Arai deduced that this was the product of their labors. And then Jasper drank it. What was this? No Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde sort of deal, for Jasper looked no different. But the two were exited about it, she could tell. Then, to her shock and slight horror, Jasper went over and let in the sunlight. It gently wafted into the room, highlighting the tiny dust motes that floated serenly on the the air. Arai checked herself, for she almost leaped up and shut them, for she had seen what the sun could do. But his marble carved chest showed no change. No black spots. no burning, no screams of pain. Arai weakly smiled back at him, sinking to the ground. What was this?

Jasper was relieved, he felt released from himself. He felt empowered, like he could be a new man, suddenly. He was on top of the world. Jasper's smile broadened until he turned around to Arai and saw her fall to the ground. The vampire was in front of her in less than a second, seeming to appear out of no where. He scooped Arai up into his arms and cradled her gently, "Arai? Are you okay?" He stroked her hair in a soothing gesture, letting the concern hit his green eyes. Had he forgotten to tell her about his experiments? Good job Jasper, two days into this thing and you're already committing the sin of omission.

Arai hardly knew what happened until she was in Jasper's arms. He was strong and held her as if she weighed no more than a feather. Blinking slowly, she looked up at him, not quite comprehending what had happened. Jasper had drank something, the sun hadn't burned him, and she had felt quite woozy. That blood taken from her body had taken its toll. "I'm fine..." she slurred, her vision blurring in and out. Shaking her head, she said, "just fine, fine fine fine." Now Arai was acting like she was drunk. Struggling, she half stumbled, half fell out of his grasp. "Can't tell you why, though. Can't say." Oh, did she feel funny. Her legs were a bit wobbly. Strange. Putting a hand on the table, she shook her auburn locks again, trying to regain her footing and her perspective on the world. "Musn't....tell..." she murmured. Then the floor rose up to meet her. Hmm, it was nice and cool down here. Arai smiled, her pale gold eyes blinking. The tile felt good on her cheek. She was very tired, and she let herself lapse into a world of misty darkness and pleasant numbness.

Jasper fumbled to catch Arai as she wobbled and stumbled around. From an outsider's point of view she could've seemed like she had been drinking all day, but Jasper knew better. Still he called her name softly with a face clouded with concern as she muttered some nonsense that was hard to understand. The doctor rushed over and kneeled beside the couple trying to push his way into control over the situation. His cold hands poked and prodded at Arai who was now, with no dispute passed out on the floor of the lab. "Arai, stay with us," the doctor grumbled, trying to nudge Jasper aside. However, the vampire stayed steadfast and didn't move and inch, it was as if no one was bothering him, but just he and Arai in the middle of the room. He caressed her face and kissed her forehead desperately trying to wait for some form of life to come back to that face. He couldn't help but be frozen with worry and concern over her. The doctor rushed off with a woosh of his lab coat to get the epsom salts from the other room to try to help revive her. Jasper, like his mortality, was pinned down and unable to move.

Arai felt the cold metal of the floor against her back. She was cold and hot all at the same time, slightly feverish and yet her skin was the shade of ivory that Jasper's was. Her pale golden eyes fluttered a bit, her vision focusing in and out. It was like this after a full moon; this weakness and general sick feeling. But she rarely had engaged in the stress of last night nor given a large amount of blood only a day afterwards. It had proved too much for her small frame. The last sensation she had was of something poking most irritably in her side. Then everything got blurry and she was floating in a cloud of nothingness. Vaguely she thought someone was calling to her, trying to pull her back. But this senseless feeling was too good to let pass up. As her body lay immobile and limp, her mind relaxed into a numbing pleasantness. It had been a while since she had felt this peaceful. For once she didn't care about what was happening in the outside world. Arai wished she could stay here forever, here in this timeless, colorless world. It was very nice just being here. She thought she would stay for a bit longer.
