The darkness of night had sprung Cameron into an active state. He was anticipating something. Perhaps he was hoping for something. Frankly he didn’t know as Tirith was still dominating his actions. Christina, earlier that night had tried to get some sort of angel to drive the demons from his body, but Tirith still remained when everything was said and done. However, the entire event had shaken Cameron up quite a bit. His head was pounding his brain felt like it was going to explode. Cameron could actually feel the effects of having some many entities in him at one time that battled over him. It was something that he didn’t want to experience and the pain was beyond anything that he had ever known. He had taken every pain killer that he could think of, yet nothing was dulling the pounding. It was like Thor was smashing his giant hammer in Cameron’s brain, smashing it into nothing.
Cameron had by now exited the base. Hit behavior was too erratic for it not to be noticed when he was in the base. He was already on watch because of the recent bombings that Tirith had made on New York City. Granted that this was still Cameron’s base and the men still loyal to him, Brandon had men as well and military authority. At this point, he was waiting for Cameron to slip up. So, it was understandable that Cameron did not want to seem crazy or insane while on the base. Outside of the base was a completely other matter however. It took him a while to clear security and get out of the base. He had to go through the several gates and give the proper passwords and scans that enabled him to this. This was one of the few times that he regretted how secure his base really was.
Tirith was allowing Cameron to make his own thoughts and experience the pain of the exorcism because for some reason it gave him a great satisfaction. That was probably because Tirith was a demon and loved giving other people pain to experience. Cameron had a lot on his mind already, not too mention what had just about happened. They had just captured Sara, the vampire queen. There were holding her underground in a very fortified and secure facility, but he doubted that it was going to do any good if Victor and the rest of the vampire army came. The only thing that he could hope to do would be to get Victor and the majority of the vampires in one place and simply bomb it. He could be underground where the explosions would not affect him or Sara. To his knowledge, burning a vampire down and setting it on fire was a way to kill it without using a stake or some other means. Some bombs were defiantly a good idea; however, it was probably a bad idea to blow up the facility. However, it came to a last resort, Cameron would do it.
Cameron walked down the sidewalk of the streets, under a busted streetlight. There was a slight drizzle coming from the thunderheads above him. Cameron looked up and saw lighting strike about five miles away. He sighed. It was going to be a long night. Cameron kept one of his hands on his head as he walked. Cameron wasn’t really sure why people did this. He supposed it was to help the pain, but when you thought about it, how could your stop the pain from the inside of the body with an outside gesture. It was foolish, but Cameron didn’t care and he kept holding his head anyway. He walked through a puddle, but he had boots on so it didn’t really affect his pants. Of course, if it had gotten on his pants, wouldn’t have really cared. Cameron still had his firearm with him; however it was not on his waist but on his chest strap, concealed by a leather jacket. There were both silver and wooden rounds in the clip, in case he ran into either creature. There wasn’t a full moon so he wasn’t too worried about werewolves.
However, ever since he had caught Sara in his base, he was a little bit edgy. Sara wouldn’t go anywhere alone. Victor wouldn’t allow it because she was his queen and he would not want her to be dead. Of course, it would take someone very dumb to kill Sara because that would undoubtedly make Victor rather angry and cause him to kill just about everything. In this case, that meant Cameron and his whole organization. Nonetheless, Cameron still couldn’t help but think that vampires had invested the island. Every person that came within the vicinity of Cameron made him edgy. Every now and then he would move his hand to his chest, just to check and make sure his weapon was still there. Every time a car drove by and splashed through a puddle, Cameron would jump. This was the worst state that Cameron had ever been in. On any other day he was smooth and collected. He was calm in the face of danger and perfect in his strikes, but now he seemed more like a drunk.
Cameron walked past a mailbox and he went around to the front side of it, stepping off the cement sidewalk. He put in a quarter after four tries and then pulled down the glass covering. He took out the paper and looked at the front page. Even the newspaper in Hawaii was testament to his work in New York. The front page of the newspaper read New York Bombed. Cameron sighed and didn’t even need to read it. Why would he read someone else’s analysis of a situation that he created? He had the analysis. He blew up the city! Cameron left the paper on top of the box and turned around as a car drove past him and splashed some water on his coat. Cameron jumped back onto the sidewalk and sighed as he let the water drip off of his coat. Everything was a mess. This just symbolized his life as of late.
It was interesting because only six months ago, Cameron would have denied the very existence of vampires and werewolves and any other mythical creatures. Six months ago the only thing he believed was real was what he could hold and see, but now there were so many forces at work and forces that surrounded him. It was sort of creepy. Cameron accepted the fact that there was going to be some lower power, so sort of hell. There had to be a hell if there were demons. Surely they could not reside in heaven. Of course, every time Cameron thought of hell, he thought of heaven as well. Was there really a heaven? In some mythologies there was just a hell and then eternity on earth through incarnation. Cameron wondered if he would be reincarnated into a frog if he died.
Cameron kept walking, well more like trudging. The rain had picked up a bit more and Cameron looked for somewhere to get out of the rain. He hadn’t really realized what part of town that he had wondered into. Everything around him was either an ABC store or a gun store and everything was bared for the night. Cameron looks back and forth as he ducked underneath a fire escape of an apartment complex. That was locked as well. Cameron looked across the street as the rain became heavier and the lightning flashed in the sky. As it did, it illuminated the sky and in the white light Cameron saw the cross on the top of a church building across the street. A church. Cameron hadn’t set foot in a church since he went with his Grandma fourteen years ago. He could see a light on inside of the building. Well, he was going to have to go in, he was getting soaked now.
So, Cameron decided to go for it. He dashed across the street and through the accumulating puddles of water and reached the heavy wooden door of the church. Cameron took the large ring that served as the doorknob and pulled on it. The door pulled forward with a slight creaking sound. Cameron moved inside and shook off some of the rainwater as he closed the door behind him. Lighting flashed as he stepped inside. Cameron began to shake and he grabbed his head again letting out a painful cry. Tirith was trying to take over; he was trying to get Cameron out of the church. Apparently the demon didn’t like being in the presence of God. However, after a moment the demon subsided. It was either too weak from the earlier encounter or being in the church weakened it. Whatever the reason, Cameron still had control.
Cameron looked at everything. There was an altar in the front at a stage where there were seats for a choir. There were rows of pews before him and candles still it at the altar. This raised a bit of suspicion for Cameron. Why would there be candles lit at this time of night? That would be a good reason for a fire. Cameron heard some floorboards creek above him and Cameron moved his hand to his chest, feeling his sidearm. He looked into the rafters but there wasn’t anything there. It was probably the storm outside fighting against the old building. Cameron walked slowly down the center of the rows, looking back and forth. He still didn’t see any people. He reached the altar and looked at the large Bible that was placed in the center. It was opened to the only verse he even recognized, John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son so that he may die…” Cameron read on for a moment before he took a deep breath and turned around. The Bible. It was just a book, just like any other. However, something in him seemed to be stirred and he turned around looked back at the Bible. He remembered his grandmother telling him about how Jesus could set everything straight.
He could remember all the Bible stories that Cameron was forced to listen to in Sunday school. Lately, most of that stuff seemed to make sense. Everything that had been happening with the spiritual world around him had been exposed and it was overwhelming. Cameron had learned one thing from fairy tales and stories. If there was evil there was always good to fight it. Cameron looked at the Bible before him. Maybe he was looking at it. Lightning flashed through the stain glass window at the back of the building and Cameron looked up and saw what was actually in the stain glass. It was a picture of Christ on a cross and the blood from his hands ran down to the people below.
“May I help you my son?” Came a gentle voice to Cameron’s left. Cameron turned sharply and reached for his firearm, exposing it to the man before he realized that it was the church reverend. The man put his left hand up, “No need for that.” The man said, his voice still calm. Cameron nodded his head and took his hand off the pistol and nodded his head
“I am sorry, I am a bit jumpy and I have been having rather bad day.” Cameron said.
“We all of them son. Mind telling me why you have a firearm?”
“Protection. I am in the military.” Cameron replied and the man nodded.
“Ahh, I see.” The man said and took a few steps forward and looked at the Bible. Cameron followed his eyes and looked back at the Bible for a moment as the man spoke, “Tell me, why have you come? I don’t get very many people coming and wondering off the streets in here.”
“I don’t know. It was raining.” Cameron replied.
“Physically or spiritually?” the man asked as he turned and looked at Cameron. Cameron raised an eyebrow. This was usually why he didn’t take church too well. He didn’t have the slightest idea what this person was talking about. Of course it was physically raining. The water on his jacket was testament to that.
“Physically, what do you mean spiritually?” Cameron asked. The man smiled and beckoned for Cameron to come with him.
“Sit down.” The man requested and walked over to the first row the pew and Cameron followed him, sitting next to the man. Once Cameron was sitting, the man began to speak. “What I mean is, how is your spiritual life? Its rains there just as it does here. We all go through storms of our own in the spiritual realm. Are you in a storm?” Cameron had to think about that for a moment but even still, he answered with the first thing that popped into his head,
“I don’t have a spiritual life.” Cameron replied and the man smiled.
“Ahh, but you do, even if you don’t believe you do. A person is through things, he is a soul, living in a body and he has a mind. You usually use the second and third part; well some don’t use the third as much as they should. However, often times the first part, the soul is left out of the equation. I don’t know if you believe in a heaven or a hell, but such thing exists, just like a spirit realm where demons and angels fight over your soul, whether you know it or not.” The reverend said. Well there was defiantly a demon fighting for him right now. That was for sure.
“I am a military man sir, I fight battles that I can see.” Cameron said, “How do I fight a war that I can’t see. I can’t kill something that doesn’t have a body.”
“Well Christ and Holy Spirit give you the equipment you need to fight the demons along side with the angels. Do you know of the Army of God?” Armor of God…Well that had to be some kickass armor. I mean, if God made some armor, it would be like freaking awesome!
“I remember my grandmother saying something about it.”
“Grandmother’s are good for that.” The reverend said with a smile, “But once you except Christ, the Holy Spirit endows you with armor to fight demons. You can’t see it, but you use it every day in your walk with Christ. The Sword of the Spirit, Armor of Truth, Shield of Righteousness, things like that.”
“But I don’t believe in Jesus, I don’t even know if I believe in heaven.” Cameron said stubbornly. The man nodded as Cameron continued, “How do I know that if I die I won’t be reincarnated as a moose or something?”
“Well,” The man said, “Would you really want to be a moose?” The man said and smiled, “Seriously however, you don’t believe in a heaven or hell?”
“Oh I believe in hell.” Cameron said quickly.
“Well if there is one there is usually the other as well.” The man said.
“Maybe.”
“Well answer me this. Can you guarantee me, that there is no heaven? Can you guarantee me that if you die, that there is no good place for you to go? I mean guarantee me, one hundred percent, no doubt at all.” Cameron had to think on this for a moment. There was a hell. He knew that. Maybe there was a heaven; maybe there was some great God and some Son of God.
“I can’t.” Cameron said truthfully.
“Well, if you are even 99 percent certain there is no heaven, isn’t that 1 percent worth believing when it comes to eternity? If there is a chance that there is heaven, that there is somewhere beyond hell that you can go after death, and it is promised to you, don’t you think it is worth fighting for, accepting and believing in? It is eternity my son, one place or the other, where do you think you would want to be?” Cameron was silent. The preacher had a point. He had a d**n good one and Cameron couldn’t even argue against it. But Cameron could never go to heave, not now. He looked down.
“But if there is, I am not good enough for God. I am by far not perfect.”
“No one is. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. But that is why he sent Jesus, to die for those sins that he knew we would make. If we accept him, our sins, no matter what they are, are wiped clean and we are like him.” The preacher said getting a bit excited.
“Sounds good.” Cameron replied.
“Well it is good. It isn’t called the good news for nothing you know.”
“But, I just fell like there are all these demons around me and in me and I…” Cameron said, referring to the one currently in him. But before he could finish the man spoke.
“Let me pray for you.” That didn’t sound like awfully bad idea so Cameron nodded his head and the preacher began to pray.
“Father, I come to you tonight with a young man who is longing for something in his life, something more than just the physical, but something that can complete him and make him whole. I know that such a thing only comes from you Lord, and I think he wants to believe that as well. However, if he feels that there are demons in and around him that are holding him back.” The man placed a hand on Cameron shoulder. His hand was firm and his face became stern, “The demons surrounding this man are wanted no more. This man is a new man and a new child of God and in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I cast out any demon or destruction temptation from this man’s body. I cast out a demon of pride and hurt. I cast out any demon or oppression and drunkenness. I cast out any demon that would cause this man to stumble and I do this in the name of Jesus.”
There was a momentum shift in Cameron’s body. Like half his body and energy just walked off and left the room. Cameron fell back against the wooden pew. The pain in his head was gone and his mind was no longer wrestling with something. Tirith, was gone. That was all it took? Christina had tried to get some sort of angel to do it with fancy words. This guy just prayed to God and the demon left immediately! Something existed up there. It had to. “I pray this and thank you in the name of Jesus.” The man concluded and Cameron looked at the preacher. The man smiled, “Don’t say anything, I already know.” The man said with a smile, “And if you want Jesus, if you want to feel whole and be equipped to fight the demons or life and the battles you face, just ask. It is a free gift that he offers to you, the only thing he requires is that you trust him.” Cameron didn’t need to be told anymore. He was already convinced by what the man had just done. Cameron nodded his head. “You don’t have to pray it out loud, you can do it in your mind and it doesn’t have to be pretty. Just the simple request would be fine.” The man said. Cameron bowed his head.Jesus, I need you. That was all he could think to say but almost immediately he felt something stir within him. However, it was a good thing, like when he was reading the Bible several minutes earlier. Cameron looked back up and the man stood up, “Welcome, to the family of God.” The man said with a smile and Cameron rose as the man embraced him for a moment.
“I feel like I have to do something.” Cameron said.
“Don’t worry, God will show you what he has destined for your life. You don’t need me for that. I just needed to show you the door.” The preacher said.
“Thank you. I have work to do.” Cameron said in referring to the war he had to rage on against the vampires. There were as demon as anything. The man nodded.
“Then go in peace brother, but don’t feel bad to come and back to us. We have a service at 10:00 on Sunday. I would love to see you there.” The man said and Cameron nodded.
“I’ll come.” Cameron promised and then bowed his head, “Thank you.” He said again and the man smiled, outstretching a hand, saying goodbye as Cameron walked out into the rain.
He felt renewed, fresh, like something was in him and gave him new power. The rain fell around him, but it didn’t even seem like it was striking him. Lightning flashed again and Cameron looked back and forth. He took a deep breath and watched as a man walked into an alley after a young lady. Cameron raised an eyebrow and walked towards the alley. He heard a scream and began to run. He saw the man attacking the woman and Cameron moved behind him, moving his hand to the man’s neck and putting him into a choke hold, but the man was strong and flipped Cameron and then jumped up onto the side of the wall. Cameron raised an eyebrow. A vampire. The vampire jumped at Cameron, but he sidestepped and brought the beast crashing to the great and pulled out his pistol firing two rounds into the creature and it cried in pain. Two were silver, the third, was wood. Cameron aimed the gun as the vampire looked at him and spoke.
“I…I saw you come from….the church……you are Christian, you aren’t to kill..” The vampire said with a smile. Cameron raised an eyebrow but then spoke and uttered something that he didn’t even know where it came from.
“It also says, that 10,000 will fall at my right hand. Your number 32; still got a way to go.” Cameron said and fired.
***********************************
Later that night, Cameron actually found himself sleeping for once. He had not gone home to the base, but to an apartment that he owned in town. He had come in around twelve that night and he was not even tired, even though everything that he experienced that night could be said to be a bit… “Odd”. Cameron lay on his bed for a while, thinking about what had happened. After a couple of minutes though, he had gotten up and went to a dresser and taken off his Bible. He blew off the dust and went back to his bed. He had begun to read it, but had fallen asleep.
That was where he was now and in his dreams, there was something even more odd going on. Cameron was floating on white clouds and everything around him was white. There wasn’t really any sort of texture or anything around him. Cameron looked around, turning his head, looking for something. Then he saw him. There was a figure walking towards him. The man was dressed in a brilliant armor that was gold and trimmed with silver. The man had hair down to his shoulders, but it was perfectly placed and hardly seemed to move. The man’s movements were graceful and it looked as if he too was floating. Cameron watched until the man actually got right up to him and Cameron, without realizing it, bowed his head to the man.
“Hello Cameron.” The man said and Cameron looked back up at him, the man was smiling. He outstretched his hand and Cameron took it. On any other day, this would seem a bit gay, but Cameron went along with in the dream, as if most of his motions were not his own.
“You made a great decision today.” The man said and Cameron nodded his head, still not saying anything. “You still have a great task ahead of you. Your war with the demons of earth is not yet over, rather it is just beginning.” The man said.
“How do I fight them?” Cameron asked.
“With the armor of God that will be given to you and with my help.” The man said. Cameron raised an eyebrow at this comment.
“Who are you?” He asked.
“I am Michael, archangel of God.” The man said and Cameron nodded his head.
“Ok. How are you going to help me?” Cameron asked. This whole concept was blowing Cameron away, but a lot of other things had happened lately and so this wasn’t that unbelievable.
“You will be equipped with the literal weapons and armor of God. When you wake from this dream, you will possess the weapons and Armor that you require including the Sword of the Spirit.” Cameron raised his eyebrow.
“Do I get a battle rifle of justice?” Cameron asked.
“No.”
“How will I use it? I won’t exactly wear armor around everywhere.” Cameron asked.
“All you will need to say is the scripture in which this power is in. Ephesians 6:10.”
“6:10” Cameron repeated nodding his head.
“You are ready to fight this war, and we will guide you and keep you safe, and more ways than you will ever know.” Michael said and then the dreams become nothing and Cameron woke up, opening his eyes slowly.
Was that even real? Cameron looked around. Dawn had come and the rain had finally stopped. Cameron wished he had a sign to tell him that what he had just witnessed that night and in his dream was real. Cameron sat up slowly and looked at his window. As he did, low and behold, he saw the sun shining brightly down onto the cross on top of the church he had just been in. Cameron felt something cool against his hand and he looked down and opened his hand and within it was a cross. He smiled and looked up at the ceiling, “Thank you.” He whispered and took out his Bible again. Ephesians 6:10
Cameron had by now exited the base. Hit behavior was too erratic for it not to be noticed when he was in the base.
