Arai awoke with a start in the middle of the night, sweating a bit. Covering her face with her hands, she shuddered a bit. She had seen it happening all over again; the flash of teeth, a snarl in the night, then nothimg. Looking around, she assured herself that she was safe. Pablo lay on the couch, breathing peacefully, a slight smile on his young face. At least someone was having good dreams tonight.

The boy heard gun shots or at least in his dreams he did. His parents had fallen down lifeless. The boy was young at then, he didn't know what had happen. At first it had started as a dream, and it had ended as a dream. In his unconscious state he thought the same way he had as a child. They were just playing, on the floor or trying to get some rest. He tried to wake them up but couldn't. The dream had ended at that point. Pablo in his sleep moved around trying to find comfort. Always following the dream was the nightmare. The police had taken him away, to find relatives. Years later he had finally figured out what had happened. Yet through the whole time in his sleep he smiled.

Falling back asleep, Arai found no relief. This happened whenever it was nearly time for a full moon. Her inner wolf began to arise, making her sleep restless and disturbed. She could only see flashes, slight moments in her memory. She saw the wolf jump out, saw him kill Jason, then saw herself, a wolf as well, in the mirror. She tossed and turned, tangling herself in the sheets as she did so, as the flashes got worse. Finally, she saw the face of Carl, horrified, before.......then she woke up, drenched in a cold sweat. "I didn't mean to!" she cried as she woke up. All her movement had shifted her to the edge of the bed, and as she sat up, still half in her nightmare, she fell off with a thump.

Pablo at that moment woke up. He was a slightly heavy sleeper but she had screamed quite loudly. The boy jumped up from his couch and looked left then right. Pablo let out a sigh of relief, it was just a bad dream he assumed. "Don't worry about dreams they mean nothing." He said closing the window he had left open. Pablo recalled his dream and frowned lightly. That was one of the boy's mottos. Dreams meant nothing, follow your feet, and your past does not make who you are. Of course the last one he argued about with himself.

Pulling herself up, she sat on the edge of the bed again. "Try telling your mind that when you are asleep," she replied quietly. She was still a bit shaken; dreams were so realistic. She could practically feel the hot breath of the werewolf as it knocked her down, could feel the fur on her arms as she transformed. Looking down, she saw only smooth creamy skin. No fur there. Arai dreaded tomorrow night, when she would be forced into her werewolf form. She didn't have control over it. She hated not having control.

"You haven't been one of us for a long time have you?" He asked her. Pablo couldn't blame Arai for having nightmares, the boy had some before he was turned. "Dreams aren't real." He said falling back onto the couch. "There a figment of your imagination." Pablo said hoping it would help. He doubted it, but it was worth a shot. "Just think of something comforting or amazing like me." He said letting out a yawn.

She shook her head. "No, I got bitten only a few months ago. The dreams aren't real; what happened in them was," she stated a bit darkly, "I didn't ask to be a werewolf, Pablo, I had the ideal life. I graduated at the top of my class, I had lots of friends, I was going to medical school. Then I went on that stupid camping trip..." Punching the pillow in momentary frustration, she laid back down. "I can't think of anything good. My past just leads to that moment, and nothing really good has happened to me since."

Pablo got up and crossed his legs, he was no facing Arai. "At least you had lived a good life. But now that you mention it, it reminds me much of mine." He said obviously being sarcastic. "When I was three my parents were brutally murdered in front of me. Of course this couldn't have scared my life. I was raised in an orphanage ran by my cousin, they didn't like me. Though I never figured out why, the other children my age disdained me. My only friend was my cousin, but he was never there. So I left the orphanage when I was fourteen, and then I was changed." This was the less depressing version of his life. He waited to hear her response.

She held her knees to her chin as he talked, listening to his tale. "Yes, your life before was certainly much bleaker than mine. I had my parents. Still," she said with a sigh, "I don't know if it would have been easier if they would have died. Having them shun me, completely and totally, hurts me deeply." In her mind, she saw her father throw that chunk of rock at her. "I'm sorry about your parents, Pablo," she whispered. Arai realized how weak and pitiful this sounded, but it was really all she could think of to say.

Pablo frowned lightly he held himself back from snarling the words liar. It was not the fact she had lied, though he did not like lying. It was the fact she lied about never meeting her parents, for a while Pablo belived he was fortunate. "Its not your fault." He said, "They didn't know it was you. What would you have done if they were the werewolf instead of you." The boy uncrossed his legs and dug his face into his pillow. "Good night."

"Yes, they did know it was me," she replied, "they knew and they didn't care." Arai saw that he didn't like the fact that she had lied to him. Tough. If she had told him about her parents, that would only lead to more questions. In the end, it didn't matter, considering he too was a werewolf, but she hadn't known that. Lost in her own morose thoughts, she curled up on the bed again, putting her head on the pillow. The only sound now was the steady breathing of Pablo and her own heartbeat. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to block out her life. But she couldn't.

Pablo fell asleep quickly. Anger, or any emotion at that execpt hapiness or exictment made it easier for him to sleep. This time though the boy did not dream, or have a nightmare. He was thinking in his sleep. Some could find it to be a rare talent, but it was perfectly normal for Pablo. The boy didn't snore like many do his age, instead he slept peacefully.

Arai did not find sleep until the gray light of dawn began to fill the room. It didn't help that the moon had peeked through the window, mocking her with its etheral beauty, reminding her of what she could not avoid. She shuddered. A werewolf; uncontrollable, vicious, hungry for bloodshed, was what she would become. But it was not her. This other side was an intruder in her life, unwelcome and unasked for. Arai was calm, collected, always ready to help. This animal side had no place in her. But it was there anyway, unavoidable, always lurking in the shadows, waiting to be released by the silver beams of the full moon. Exhausted by her dark thoughts, Arai eventually fell into a light sleep, dreading the night she knew followed the day.

Rays of light hit the boy's face. He groaned in hope it would go away. It didn't work, he dug his face deeper into his pillow. Relunctely the got up and looked at the time. Pablo had slept for a bit it was already eleven O'clock. It was a nice amount, though he usually slept longer. He got up, in his mourning state as he opened the door to the bathroom. The boy hadn't looked to see if Arai was still asleep or not.

Arai dozed throughout the morning, never really falling asleep, but not completely awake either. She woke up a bit more when Pablo began to move about. Hearing the bathroom door shut, she rolled over, gazing at the clock. It read 11:01. Her light brown eyes stared at it as it switched to 11:02, then 11:03. She could be like this in the morning, just staring at something, watching it. Finally, she forced herself to stop. Rolling over and out of the bed in one smooth motion, she hit the floor lightly on her toes. The sheets followed her, wrapped about her slender frame like a toga of some kind. Distangling herself, Arai stood at the window, hands behind her back, just watching the waking city.
