Set in downtown Buffalo, New York, the abandoned factory is not a pretty sight. Rust is apparent on the sides, as are various trailing weeds and evidence of pigeons. Few give it a second look, for few remain in New York after the catastrophic bombing of New York City. Over the deserted buildings the factory glares, as if wishing for happier times in this bleak town. But inside the factory is far from deserted. Upon entering through one of the four doors, two of which are cleverly disguised to look like part of the wall from the outside, a newcomer to the den will find themselves in a large room. This is the main room of the den; it takes up almost all of the first floor. Here are couches and chairs in abundance, as well as a few air hockey and foosball tables. The windows are of clouded glass, purposefully made to look old, matching the exterior of the building. But there are surveillance cameras discretely placed outside so that no one can sneak up on the lycans in their den. The windows also have blackout curtains so that any activity at night is unapparent from the street. Passing through a dividing wall, you will find yourself in the kitchen. Equipped with two massive refrigerators/freezers, there is plenty of room for the massive quantities of food that lycans can eat. There are plenty of tables throughout the kitchen and common area to accommodate masses of hungry people. Two stoves and a giant walk-in pantry assure ample room for any number of cooks. The kitchen is a community deal; anyone that wants to cook can, provided they make enough for everyone.
At the corner of the main room is a winding staircase. This leads to the floors above. The second and third floors are female and male rooms, respectively. Each floor is divided into suites with four rooms, a small living room, and a bathroom. Up to eight people can live in one suite at a time, though if there is no need for roommates each lycan can have a room of their own. There are no real windows on this floor, so intruders cannot sneak into the rooms or shoot through the windows. Each door can be locked, and everyone who stays is issued a key to their respective doors, ensuring extra safety. Each room has two twin beds, two dressers, two closets, and a small nightstand. The small living room has a couch and two chairs, a coffee table, and shelves for books, pictures, or anything else the lycans might bring with them.
After passing through both floors of dormitories, you will find yourself on the fourth floor, the training room. Here you will find almost every gym fixture known. There are weights, treadmills, barbells, elliptical machines, punching bags, and cardio machines in abundance. There are also areas sectioned off for fighting and training rings. Anyone that knows how to fight well, whether in martial arts or street fighting, is welcome to hold lessons for those that are interested. The more ways each lycan can fight, the better. At the end of the room is a long, soundproof room designed to be a firing range. Here you can train in handguns and other weapons. Up to four people can train at a time, and again, anyone who knows how to shoot is welcome to teach others.
The top floor is reserved for meetings of the lycans, and is soundproofed, with double-thick walls. There is a huge whiteboard for ideas, as well as a large conference table to seat anyone there. Up here there is also a small kitchenette area, as the stubborn one sometimes refuse to leave until a conclusion is reached. Coming up with ideas can be hungry work. This room is unique from the others in that you have to know a code to open the door. Beside the door on the outside is a small keypad. If the combination is pressed incorrectly, it flashes red and locks down for ten minutes. If the keypad is destroyed, the whole system shuts down and the room can only be opened from the inside. This prevents the door from being forced open. The door itself is made of a heavy metal alloy, six inches thick, and able to withstand 1000 pounds of force. It is opened on a sliding mechanism, not hinges, so it cannot be knocked down. This room is one of the safe rooms on the base. It also has a secret roof exit, though few are aware of it.
The roof is rather nondescript. There is an area large enough to hold a helicopter, though as of yet there are no helicopters in lycan possession. Within the funnels of the factory are emergency stores just in case of siege or attack. The entire building has been reinforced with steel and other metals to assure extra strength in case of a bombing. The structure was planned so that in the event of a bomb, the walls will not cave in and crush the inhabitants.
On the opposite side of the spectrum lies the underground floor. Carefully excavated, this giant room stretches a bit beyond the reach of the factory itself. The walls are solid concrete reinforced with steel bars to withstand extreme pressure. This area is divided into three parts. The first part, upon entering down the hidden staircase, is the infirmary. Here, anyone who knows medicine is welcome to it, for the stores are kept well supplied. There is a small, sterile room for any surgeries necessary. A back portion of the room is sectioned off for small beds, just in case anyone needs to stay for observation. The front area is a waiting room of sorts with chairs and magazines. If you have a cold or an injury you wait here until whoever is on duty can see you. Going beyond the infirmary you will find a triple-enforced door leading to the next area. Here is the safe house, the bunker room. Here the concrete walls are two feet thick, and able to withstand a direct hit with a bomb. Sunk deeply into the ground, it would take a week to dig deep enough to find the room. It is rather snug, though large for such a room. There are chairs around, as well as flashlights, food stores, and anything else that is deemed necessary in times of hiding. At the end of this room is the last room. The door is coated with an inch of pure silver, causing any werewolf foolish enough to try opening it to writhe in pain. To enter this room you have to go through a retinal scan, a fingerprint recognition pad, and a twelve-digit code. The code is changed every month. As with the meeting room on the top floor, if the wrong code is entered or the keypads are destroyed, the entire room locks down. The door is again on a sliding mechanism with no doorknobs or hinges. Inside the room are the secrets of the clan that require extreme safeguarding. The only ones with the code are the lycans who founded the den and any they deem worthy of admittance.
Overall, the lycan den appears to be nothing more than a run-down factory with the occasional skulking teenager looking for trouble. But as with so many things in these days, nothing is as you would expect. On full moons it would be prudent to stay clear of the area. Be forewarned that non-pack members will be treated with hostility.
