As she ran, frenzied thoughts flew through Arai's head. She could not win by mere speed; he was older and more experienced, no doubt able to run her down easily. But maybe she could win in agility and cunning. After all, the small redhead was a good foot shorter and quite a lot lighter than the vampire chasing her. So she made a quick left into a nearby alley. Though she was the wolf, now the roles were reversed. Feeling more like the hare in this game of deadly consequence, she darted through the narrow lane, knocking over trashcans in a frantic hope of slowing him down. As her adrenaline surged in her blood, Arai darted through narrow passages, over fences, under anything she could. She tried everything in hopes that he would be deterred, in hopes that she could get somewhere safe until dawn. Dawn was her only hope.

Jasper hurried along after her trying to keep up with Arai's panicked pace. She kept trying to deter him with pushing objects in his way in attempt to slow him down. One of the trashcans came down too soon and tripped him. The vampire sprawled out on his stomach over the trashcan on the wet asphalt. With a grunt he was back up and running. Something caught his ear from behind him. He glanced his head back to look but he was only halfway turned when a black jalopy flew by him at a blinding speed. Jasper's brow knitted together in confusion. He kept running towards Arai but noticed that the jalopy was on the same path that he was. The car awkwardly crashed through fences and whatever Arai ran through. The door flew open on her side as it caught up with her, "Get in!" he heard him call. The doctor's chubby hand reached out from the driver's seat, struggling to concentrate on two things at once. Jasper got the picture, he ran faster to make up for the distance. He cursed the doctor to himself for helping her.

Running frantically, trying to keep ahead of the ravenous vampire, Arai's sensitive ears picked up a strange sound. It sounded like a car. But who would be out at three in the morning? From the strangled sound of an engine pushed to its limit and the crash of debri, she realized it was following her. Or was it following Jasper? Then it roared behind her as it crashed through one more fence. Chancing a glance, she realized the determined face at the wheel was no other than Dr. Penatti. And apparently he was chasing her. As his hand reached out to her, she made a snap decision. He had helped her before; she would trust him. Taking the hand in her own slender grasp, Arai jumped into the car. Slamming the door, she yelled frantically, eyes a wild shade of topaz, "Go, go! He's trying to kill me!" She could only hope that the car would be able to keep driving to outrun the speedy vampire. Jasper's face, fangs gleaming white in the light of the waning moon, loomed in the rearview mirror. He didn't give up that easily, it appeared.

The faint glow of a sunrise began to present itself shyly on the horizon, politely pushing the darkness away. Doctor Pettenati floored the gas of his scratched jalopy. He swerved through a narrow alley way that they approached, squinting in the rearview at Jasper's streaky shirtless form as he ran behind. He was moving so fast he could barely focus on the vampire before he flitted to the other side of the car, keeping up. The doctor swerved again, speeding up as he hit the main road. Jasper was having trouble keeping up his speed as he ran out following the black car. He glared into the back window at the doctor, and to the nervous red head sitting safely beside him. The vampire glanced up at the sky as if questioning the time. He wasn't sure how long he had been chasing Arai and how much longer he had. He squinted at the sky finding the deathly rays of the sun streaking the sky more boldly now with oranges and pink of brilliant but deadly hues. Jasper caught up to the passenger's side in a last desperate attempt, this time the beast inside hid and let the rational man take the wheel. Black spots burned into his face as the sun caught him with his rays, he reached out his hand to attempt to grab hold of the car or maybe to claw into the window, however just as his fingers hit the glass and scratched down as he fell down to the hard, unforgiving black asphalt. Similar black spots fell on his back and began to burn, Jasper yelled out in pain, clenching his fists and bearing his teeth. In the car the doctor's eyes shot to the form on the road, now still as the desperate green eyes looked up at the car in desperation.

As if in a horrible nightmare, Arai watched the crazed Jasper try to catch them. He was fast, but he was no match for the doctor's insane driving. She looked over at the spedometer and was not surprised to note that the needle was beginning to encroach to the hundreds. She was also pretty sure that no policeman could argue with why they were driving so fast. Her wide amber eyes couldn't help but look in the rearview mirror, watch the gaining Jasper. And then the sunlight came, a blessing to her. Arai had survived! But with her survival came the downfall of another. The bloodthirsty look leaving his eyes, Jasper started to flag, his expression turning from enraged to panicked. As the rays of the sun caught his pale skin, burning it badly. Shocked, Arai realized that Jasper could die if left there. And even though he had lost control and tried to kill her, hadn't she done the same thing last night? There was only one thing she could do. Shoving the car door open, despite the fact that it was still moving, she hit the ground running. Her arms got scraped up badly, stinging her, but she was a lycan; they would heal. Jasper was in grave danger. As she approached him, the small redhead slowed. Would he still try to attack her? He looked to be in a lot of pain, but she wasn't about to take any chances. Approaching from behind, Arai clenched her fists and swung them both towards his head. Each fist hit his temples with the force of a grown man in a move that was sure to knock him out. "Sorry Jasper," she breathed. But now was not the time for apologies. There was an undead man to be saved. Grabbing the shirtless form under his arms, the five three girl began to drag the burning Jasper towards the nearest alley. If only she could get him out of the sun!

Jasper's eyes squinted as his skin hissed in reply to the sun's deadly rays. He needed to get out of the direct light before he was absolved to the same fate as his late wife. Though strangely, right now, thoughts of Diorah didn't cross his mind. He only thought of Arai... The vampire ventured to peek open his eyes and saw her running towards him with a worried look on her face. How the sun shone behind her made her seem to glow like an angel. His teeth clenched away the pain and he reached out his trembling hand to her. With sudden force just as their eyes met she hit him. He was conscious just long enough to hear her brief apology and then everything went black. Jasper didn't feel the slender hands dragging him to the dark, safe alley, but only felt the small comfort of unconsciousness. The vampire smiled and fully faded out. Meanwhile in the car, the doctor stomped on the break. The tires squealed in protest of the sudden stop and he threw the car in reverse. Doc's fingers firmly gripped the headrest to turn himself around to see. Thoughts raced through his head, a familiar feeling of deja vu coming back to him. Now, he could stop the pain before it was too late. He stopped as he saw the alley where the two rested. "Arai! Throw him in the back, lass! We need to hurry!" They were just a couple of blocks away from his town home so the drive would be hurried but short. He needed fresh blood. The doctor began to wonder which of the two would need to give him that solace.

At least he had heard her apology before lapsing into unconsciousness. Or was the smile on his face all in her imagination? Whatever the case, at least he was in the shade now. His skin looked terrible, as if he had been in a fire. Hearing the screech of brakes, Arai looked up. The doctor motioned for her to get him in the car. They needed to get to the house where they could help him. Though Arai didn't know how to fix this, other than getting him out of the light, hopefully the doctor did. Pulling on all her reserves of lycan strength, Arai managed to pick up the much heavier Jasper and fling him in the back of the car. A feat that would have been impossible, in fact, without her enhanced genes. Perhaps they could come in handy every once in a while. Not bothering to even get to the front, Arai just shut the door, sitting on the seat with Jasper. "Go!" she urged. There was a life to be saved here.

"There's a tarp in the back under your feet, cover him with it. Face and everything. Every inch of skin you can get it over do so. We don't want any further exposure." The doctor spoke to Arai commandingly but not in a rude and brash tone. He didn't want to get her too excited or see the pain on his face. Doctor Pettenati did a quick three point turn to get the car turned around away from the sun. As once as they were turned in the right direction he punched the gas, pressing the pedal dangerously close to the carpet of his 1950's jalopy that before this incident was in mint condition. If it saved Jasper however, he would destroy twenty classic cars in a heartbeat. He couldn't lose anyone else or it would be the death of him. The scratched black car fishtailed as he turned without slowing down, he glanced into the rearview. "Sorry," he murmured as he pressed the car on down the street and did the same two blocks down. The engine hummed and roared as he sped up and then suddenly stopped throwing himself forward a little at it's suddenness. In a flash he was out of the car and walking around quickly to the other side. He wrenched the door open and beckoned Arai to come out. "Hurry lass, we've got to hurry," he urged.

Fumbling with the thick material, Arai covered every bit of Jasper. Now he looked like a corpse. She was not worried about killing him by covering his face; you couldn't kill what wasn't truly alive, could you? It was all she could do to keep Jasper on the seat and herself from being flung through the windshield as the doctor drove madly to the green door of his house. It was fortunate that this was a nice car, because the engine ran smoothly and quickly, speeding them towards their destination. At the sudden stop Arai was flung forward, but she managed to keep a hold on Jasper and prevent his limp body from falling to the floor of the car. Hurridly, at the doctor's command, she pulled Jasper out, trying to keep him covered with the tarp as best she could. No use furthering the already severe damage to his skin. Hopefully they could get him inside before he woke up. Which, by Arai's calculations, would be any minute now.

The green door was hastily unlocked and the doctor pushed through into his house. He took the limp but heavy vampire from Arai's arms and carried him up the stairs to the same room that Arai has been in last night. He never turned to glance to see if Arai was behind him, but spoke as if she was, half talking to himself, "He needs blood.. fresh. These sh*tty little packs won't do..." The chubby fingers worked the tarp away from his face and his body and the damage was attempting to be assessed. There were large black burned spots on his face and all over his chest, on his back there were two or three smaller ones and two on his right thigh that burned through his jeans. The vampire didn't stir, he couldn't breath, his heart didn't beat, there was no indication that could be applied to humans for vital signs. "Arai. We need to give him something. That's the only way to bring back consciousness and heal his burns. Possibly to even save his life. I need you to help me." He looked down at her wrists. "Are you willing to help Jasper?" he asked seriously and urgently. "We need to hurry."

Jasper looked terrible. There was no doubt about it. The burns were intense, blackening the otherwise ivory skin. Any human doctor would have had a heart attack at the sight. But this doctor was no human doctor. At the first murmurings of the doctor, Arai had a sinking feeling that she would have to be the one to save his life. Gulping, she took a steadying breath and nodded. "I'll help," she said quietly. Neither of them stated that she would give him blood, but both knew what they had to do. And here was where her medical expertise came in handy. For Arai had wanted to become a doctor, an ER doctor, and had done countless volunteer hours in ambulances and hospitals. Her amber eyes lighted upon a needle, a drip bag, and all the equipment needed for taking blood. Hooking up the tubes to the bag, making sure the needle was clean and straight, Arai prepared her arm to give blood. Swabbing it lightly, she pushed her sleeve all the way up and clenched her fist. Then, with one quick jab, she stuck it in. This time, fortunately, she got the vein the first time. With a spurt it pumped blood into the sac, the beginnings of a meal pooling in the plastic bag. Sitting down, Arai watched the blood flow. About halfway filled should do it.

Doctor Pettenati looked on in astonishment as the petite werewolf jabbed the hypodermic needle into her arm with medical precision. A needle to a vein hadn't been exactly what he had meant when he said fresh blood, but then again he wasn't sure if Jasper would be able to bite or not. Now the question remained, would this turn Jasper into a hybrid? Would it give him extra strength or abilities that he didn't already have? One thing the doctor was certain of at least was that this wouldn't kill Jasper. That was an upside. But would it change something between the two preternatural creatures? He waited until the bag was full then slowly extracted the needle and stopped the iv suction by twisting off the tube. The heavy bag of blood was hot in his hands, this would have to do, or at least for now. He pulled out another tube and a fresh needle, disposing of the two used ones in the bio hazard waste basket. Once as he twisted in the new tube he cleaned the skin in the bend of his arm then pushed the needle gently into the cubital vein of his arm. The crimson liquid filtered down through the tube and into Jasper's veins. The more blood that passed the lighter the black spots got, and the fingers of his left hand started to twitch as if he were playing a tiny melody on an invisible piano. Doc's unshaven and worried face now creased with a smile instead of the hard lines of worry and concentration. He let out a sigh of relief and kissed his forehead in a sweet gesture. "He should wake up in a little while, heavy exposure to the sun usually wears vampires out. You can stay in here if you like, just keep an eye on the iv and let me know if anything should happen." He clapped his hand gently on Arai's slender shoulder and left the two alone together.

Even if this hadn't been what the doctor was thinking of, there was no way Arai was letting Jasper's teeth anywhere near her. Being bitten by a vampire might have an adverse effect on her, and she wasn't about to find out what it was. Being a lycan was plenty to deal with right now. But would Jasper have side effects from her blood? She thought not. After all, there had been accounts of vampires drinking from lycans and they weren't any different than normal. It was just that lycan blood was different, stronger somehow. Whatever the case, she was glad to have the blood giving done. Weary, her body having to work overtime to produce the depleted blood, she just sat with Jasper. "I guess you got me after all," she said, a faint smile on her face.

Jasper's head spun as he regained consciousness, his temples throbbed in protest at the thought of even sitting up. He let out a long sigh at the voice and cracked his eyes open just a little in the direction of the sweet melodious voice. He had remembered what he'd done to her... Now that the beast was gone he was unbelievably ashamed of himself and his actions. The familiar smells of the town house wafted into his nose along with the sting of an iv in his arm which he could already taste was pumping blood into his system. This blood tasted different somehow though... Not like it usually did. Maybe its because it was warm, he thought. His voice was raspy when he spoke, "Got you..? I do believe you're still alive." Jasper reached for her delicate little hands, his own fingers itching for some kind of contact to make sure that it was really her, and not some figment of his imagination. His green eyes fluttered open a little more, and took her in like she was the sight his first sunset, sitting there in all her glory, her rich auburn hair, her golden eyes and her milky white skin more beautiful now that she had been saved from him. "We're a tad dangerous for each other wouldn't you say?" he chuckled raspingly.
