Arai grinned. Finally, someone her age. Her face grew serious as she listened to Sarena's problem. "Well," she said slowly, patting Pete the wolf on the head, "he certainly wouldn't try to hurt you, but that does not mean he knows best." She gazed at the girl out of her light brown eyes, as if trying to see into her soul. "Only you know what is best for you. Do not make a hasty descision; once you decide, you can never go back. I did not have a choice, but you do. Use it wisely, do not try to please others through your actions, because you are the one who will suffer for them. Look at both sides," she suggested, "the good and the bad. As a lycan, you are granted immortality, agelessness, powerful strength. You will heal quickly, be stronger than you ever could as a human. But you will also be lonely. Few accept the lycans as friends. You will only have those of us who are like you. Vampires and humans alike will hunt you; try to get rid of you. You also will give up one night a month," she said, holding up one finger, "and during that night you will struggle for control with the powerful wolf inside you. It is not an easy life; make sure that if you choose it, you choose knowing both sides." Arai was glad Pete was unconscious; he would probably get a little irked with her for telling the girl all this. But what did Pete know? He was a male; things were different on the feminine side. Also, Pete chose his life. Arai did not.

Sarena looked yet agian confused. She stared at the ground. "what about vampires? can both sides just get along?" She asked softly.

Arai sighed, shaking her head. "I have often wondered the same thing," she admitted, "I am not a fighter; I am a healer, a doctor. As far as I understand, this conflict has been going on since the first vampire and werewolf dwelt on this earth. I do not know the story, or what started it, but I doubt many do nowadays." Arai gazed off into the distance, her face serious and pensive. "I hate this war," she declared, "because it is pointless. For the humans it has a point; they fight the vampires because they are the food for the bloodsuckers; they fight to live. But no one is willing to give quarter, to try to get along. So it continues."

Sarena looked up at her. "Arai... if given the chance, would you befriend them? would you set aside both differencess, and look at each other as friends?" She asked softly. "i still can not see what is so different between the two... and as for becomeing a lycan... i'd have more friends as i did, i was normally locked away in my room, i could never go out and learn, and see other places. Pablo and Pete has shown me things, that i'd never in my dreams would of thought were real, to me, Lycans where a myth... now there's vampires too. What else is there..." She whispered.

Arai sat there a moment, thinking. "But there is a difference; vampires are immortal as well, but it is because they are not alive. They have no soul; the day you are converted to vampirism is the day you die. But if one came along that truly meant me no harm, I would accept that," she decided. "There are many things out there, Sarena, things I do not know of. Angels and demons, vampires and lycans, those are all real. I did not belive either, but look where I am now," she said with a dry, almost humorless chuckle.

Sarena sighed. "im just so confused" She whispered holding her head. "i do not understand anything anymore" She whispered. Trying to sort all this out. She groaned softly. "why must everything be so complacated" She said softly.

"I know," Arai said soothingly, "I am confused as well." She had only been a werewolf for less than half a year; she barely knew her own capabilities. Drawing her knees up, Arai rested her head on them, thinking. Her auburn hair ruffled with a slight breeze that blew through the camp. It was beginning to get cooler, and she could see tinges of red and pink on the clouds above. "I hope Pete wakes up soon," she commented. It was almost night.

"Pablo?" Arai said raising an eyebrow, "so you have met him too, have you? Pablo was the first one that I met." She remembered that day in Athens; the strange teenager who had knocked her over. She grinned, thinking of him. "He will be fine," she assured, "Pablo always gets himself into scrapes, but he always gets out as well." If there was ever anyone destined to live long, it seemed be him.

With a chuckle, Arai went to the pack, digging through until she found some clothes. Tossing them near the tree, she turned around, signaling for Sarena to do the same. "He's nice," Arai affirmed, "and I am here because I was walking along and heard some commotion. I come out of the woods, and there's a girl and a guy, the guy is laid out, bleeding, on the ground. So I saved his life. That's what I've been doing. What have you been doing?" she asked teasingly.

Arai watched him show off, then turned to Sarena and said, "Sorry that you had to get stuck with this arrogant young pup." With a twinkle in her eyes to show she was just teasing, she said, "Oh, so are you joining the circus now? I don't see how that's going to help you in a fight, but whatever. And as for me," she said, pushing up her sleeve to display her slenderly muscled arm, "I have done some exercising myself. But I do not need mass muscle like you." Arai grinned at the teenage boy, secretly proud of her lycan friend.

Arai laughed, the first time she had actually done so in months. "I'm sure," she said wryly, "Pete, defender of the world and ladies man." She shook her head at the sixteen year old. He was too much. She allowed him to hug her, her five foot two-ness feeling engulfed next his six-foot frame. "Wow, you really are a mass of muscle, aren't you?" she said, punching him lightly on the shoulder. "It's good to see you too, Pete, though next time try not to be dying when I come to visit."

She smirked. "You live an exciting life, Pete. But someday I may not be here to save your tail, literally or otherwise," she teased. Pete was a troublemaker; he couldn't help it, it seemed. "So now you're just leading Sarena around?" she questioned, "I'm not headed anywhere in particular, actually, just walking around. Mostly because of the full moon a couple nights ago; I'm still struggling for control in that area." She rubbed her face, suddenly tired from all this drama.

But you had a choice, she thought back, and until I can control this, get stronger, know the full extent of my abilities and utelize all of them, I have no place in this war. Arai never went into anything halfway; she deliberated, planned, prepared. But when she made a move, she made a move, decisively and quickly. Her light brown eyes met his, so blue and bright, and as he leaned in closer, she didn't know quite what to do. "Yeah, I should," she whispered back.

She stood there, trapped in his sapphire gaze. Arai slowly closed her eyes as his lips gently pressed against hers, sending a tingle up her spine. When he drew away, she looked down, confused and a bit startled, then up again as he walked away. Her mind was a whirlwind of emotions; should she tell him off? She automatically tried to shut off her emotions, not letting herself get flustered. But to no avail. Her heart pounded as she stood there, still unmoving. Finally, Arai snapped out of it and yelled after him, "So where am I supposed to sleep?"
